Hot temperatures and winds prompt high fire danger alert

A FIRE weather warning has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for parts of the Maranoa, Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.

The warning was issued just before 11am this morning and will remain in place for the rest of the day.

The bureau predicts hot to very hot conditions as well as dry and gusty winds.

The conditions will cause a severe fire danger in the Channel Country district, Maranoa and Warrego district south of about Charleville to Roma and far southwest parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt district.

Temperatures are expected to top 45 degrees in some parts of the state.

Locations likely to be affected include Birdsville, Thargomindah, Windorah, Quilpie, Cunnamulla and St George.

The forecasters expect Toowoomba to reach a high of 34 degrees today with a possible shower or thunderstorm this afternoon or evening.

Dalby and Warwick are expected to reach 36; and Goondiwindi 41.
