AFTER just four days as a member of Katter's Australian Party, Member for Condamine Ray Hopper has been endorsed as the leader of the party.

Mr Hopper thanked the party for its support and said he would focus on building membership.

However when he spoke to the Dalby Herald on Tuesday, Mr Hopper would not say whether he agreed with all of the KAP policies.

"I'm part of this party now and I'm looking at their policies at the moment," he said.

When pressed to answer the question, Mr Hopper said, "I want to get into that area and I probably will be having some debates with them, but I'm not going to talk about that at the moment."

Mr Hopper said a KAP policy of not allowing mining on private land without a landholder's consent was "very realistic".

"I think it's very realistic. We're into protecting the landholder," he said.

"If you buy a piece of dirt, it's your piece of dirt."
