Quick thinking saves Mt Berryman house from fire

Quick thinking by a Mt Berryman women has saved a house from being engulfed by fire early today.

Laidley Fire Captain Craig Barrett said the women's quick thinking to shut the doors and windows helped stop s the fire spreading from the main bedroom to the rest of the house by slowing down the fire.

"She did a good job closing everything up and getting the kids out of the house, we half expected the house to be all gone when we got out there," he said.

Captain Barrett said six crews came to the rescue and two of the fireman on the scene first, Craig Jackwitz and Brian Ranse, managed to get the blaze under control.

However, the cause of the fire has not yet been established.

"We need to have a look at what started the fire," Captain Barrett said.

"I have requested a fire investigator to come so we can establish a reason for the fire."
