Rare items to be auctioned

THE idea of cutting meat on the old rusting bandsaw may not seem appealing to most, but for one history lover, the butchers' machinery may induce enough nostalgia to warrant a bid when it goes under the hammer next month.

Stuart Bond of Stuart Bond Real Estate said it was just one of the hundreds of items up for auction at a Canningvale property on Saturday, February 9.

"They (auctions) have always been popular and attracts peoples' attention," he said.

"It's all there on the one day in the one place."

Mr Bond - who said he had seen just about everything - had noticed some unusual items for this particular auction.

"There's a reverse disc horse plough, I have never seen one before.

"There's an old double dumper chaff cutter in working condition which is over 100 years old - they are as rare as hen's teeth," he said.

Mr Bond said as time went on it was getting hard for collectors find antique pieces.

"Twenty-five years ago there were plenty of old tables but they are getting rarer," he said.

There are not just the big ticket items like wool presses and ploughs up for grabs.

"Collections of the feet from claw-foot bathtubs, sulky steps with a range of patterns, camp ovens, scare guns, hay cutters and tools will all go under the hammer.

Mr Bond said despite the age of many of the pieces, plenty were in working order.

The auction is at Canning Rd, Canningvale, 3kms east of Warwick, from 10am.

Check out next Tuesday's Bush Telegraph to see if you can name some of the more unusual items in the auction.
