UPDATE: Police are investigating the apparent mindless vandalism of government buildings and vehicles in Tor St.

Overnight on Saturday, intruders made their way into the gated complex on foot and smashed a number of glass windows in the veterinary laboratory and a lunchroom.

They also smashed the windows of two vehicles.

Both vehicles were rummaged through.

A police spokeswoman said it was unclear whether the intruders had got off with anything.

"We can't confirm whether they have stolen anything until staff return (today)," she said.

The spokeswoman said the break-in appeared to have been without intent.

"They have removed a large piece of glass and thrown it into the garden bed," she said.

A window repairer visited the complex yesterday to replace broken glass panes.

Police investigations will continue today.

EARLIER: Police are investigating the break and enter of a government department on Tor St.

Thieves gained entry to the vet laboratory at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry overnight.

A window was also broken in a lunchroom.

It is not yet known if anything was stolen during the break in.

The facility was formally known as the Department of Primary Industries.
