POLOCROSSE: The Australian women have secured the Carroll Truck Sales International Series against South Africa after securing a 30-14 victory in the late game on Friday night.

In front of the largest crowd at Morgan Park, Warwick, since the 2007 World Cup final, Australia led at the end of every chukka. Albury Holbrook player Lucy Grills won player of the match.

It wasn't all celebration in the Australian camp with South Africa taking an unbeatable lead in the men's series with a 28-24 win in the early game on Friday night.

With the World Cup only two years down the track and only four men and four women to play in each team, there will be plenty at stake for the players in the third Tests from 6pm Saturday.

Whether it is rugby, cricket or polocrosse, the competitiveness is always there between Australia and South Africa, even if a series has already been decided.

In the women's Test, Australia led 21-12 at the end of the fifth chukka which became 28-12 when Farann Mathie, Sandra Weston and Lucy Grills scored seven unanswered goals to put the game out of the reach of the South Africans. Some of the passing between Grills and Mathie was just sensational.

Australian coach Paul McGrath, from the Warwick club, said the play of his team was unbelievable.

"They have played so well over the two nights,” he said.

"There is one Test to go.”

In the men's match, Australia led 11-7 after three chukkas and 16-12 after five before the South Africans won the sixth chukka 7-2 to take the lead.

Graham MacLarty was No.1 for South Africa in the sixth chukka and showed yet again the class that won him the best player award in the 2015 World Cup.

Going into the last chukka, South Africa led 25-20 before Australia reduced the margin to two but it was soon out to four. In the final minute, MacLarty held the ball in front of goal without shooting realising Australia couldn't win without the ball.

MacLarty won the best player award and was high in praise of the brilliant horses provided by the Australian horse owners.

"We will now look after the horses for the Third Test,” he said.

South African player Travis Timm said the score was a bit close at times.

"We are really happy with a series win,” he said.

In the Barastoc Interstate Series being played at Morgan Park, New South Wales is playing well in the open grades. The New South Wales women had a win against Queensland yesterday.

In open men's, Queensland beat Victoria late Friday after going down to New South Wales on Friday morning.

The first of 12 rounds of Barastoc and Shell Cup club games will be played at 7.30am Saturday and the last two internationals from 6pm. Action will continue in the interstate and club competitions on Sunday.
