Australians put their trust in the Toyota brand

TOYOTA now has the best reputation among Australia's top 60 companies, research shows, while the shine appears to be coming off global technology giant Apple.

Despite garnering bad headlines for axing staff in recent times, Toyota jumped three places since last year's Corporate Reputation Index, which is compiled by AMR and the Reputation Institute.

After finishing in first place last year Apple Australia fell four places to come in fifth in the survey, which measures Australians' feelings about the top 60 companies.

The top 60 is selected based on BRW's top 100 list.

Australian Post and JB Hi-Fi again filled second and third sports respectively.

Qantas's reputation, damaged so badly when CEO Alan Joyce grounded the entire fleet to break an industrial dispute early last year, made a stunning recovery improve 13 places to 12th.

ALDI Australia was another of the big movers, jumping eight places since last year to finish ninth.

Bendigo Bank rose by a similar amount to come in just outside the top 10 in 11th place.

Electrical retailer The Good Guys was also a big improver, jumping six places to come in sixth.

Mining giants BHP (39th, -12) and Rio Tinto (48th, -15) experienced significant slides.
