JASON Bright secured an emotional victory in the final race in Pukekohe yesterday to claim the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy as the best overall driver at the ITM 400 Auckland.

Richards, who died of cancer 16 months ago, last drove with the Brad Jones Racing team Bright is part of, the success meaning the team can take the inaugural trophy back to its base in Albury.

Bright won the final race from Garth Tander, with four-time V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup third.

The result saw Bright finish narrowly ahead of Will Davison in the overall standings, with Tander third.

"Brighty was pretty motivated to win that one," Tander said.

"It was a pretty special day for them."

The first race yesterday was won by Davison in a Falcon, which was Ford's first win at Pukekohe in nine years.

The victories to Bright and Davison meant there were four separate winners on the weekend.

Scott McLaughlin, 19, became the youngest winner of a V8 Supercars race when he took the chequered flag in the first 100km race on Saturday, before Whincup won race two.
