DARLING Downs businesses have offered hope for some of the 260 workers sacked by civil construction company Ostwald Bros last week.

Three different companies contacted The Chronicle after last Wednesday's announcement, saying they had several positions open for workers laid off by administrators.

Stonestreets Coaches general manager Nat Foster said the transport business had diesel mechanic and casual driver roles available right now in Dalby and Toowoomba, with a preference towards locals.

"We have a Dalby depot and in our Dalby depot we're seeking a qualified mechanic and casual driving roles," she said.

"We're also looking for mechanics and casual drivers in Toowoomba.

"We know that there are a lot of companies that have gone through difficulties.

"We're just lucky to be coming into a busy time - We've got a long-term policy of hiring people local to our depots."

RBY Workstars general manager Peter Remfrey, who organises labour for projects across Queensland, encouraged all laid off workers to check out the business' website for available job offers.

"At this stage, I would like to extend to all those affected now without a job, to head over to our website and register for opportunities," he said.

To apply for jobs, head to www.rbyworkstars.com.au.

Dalby-based Aust-Mech Australian Conveyor Systems also put its hand up to consider sacked workers for several vacant positions, including welders, assembly mechanics, field service mechanics and fitter/turners.

Send an email with a resume, cover letter and two references to admin@austmech.com.

The administration process with PriceWaterhouseCoopers continues for Ostwald Bros this week, with a creditors meeting scheduled for Toowoomba on Wednesday.
