Bystanders help free man trapped under ute

UPDATE: The man's condition has stabilised according to a Roma hospital spokesperson. The patient will be airlifted to Toowoomba or Brisbane this afternoon.

EARLIER: A MAN has been transported to Roma hospital after he was struck by his own vehicle.

Emergency services were on the scene of the incident, which occurred at 9.14am outside Rabobank on Wyndham St, Roma.

The man, 60, is currently in a serious condition, suffering from abdominal, pelvic and a significant leg injury.

"Currently we believe the truck has reversed from Wyndham St, come up over the kerb and into the business, hitting the man," senior constable Cameron Simmons said.

"At the moment it appears that there are no other vehicles or people involved. However we will continue investigations, and check to see if there were any mechanical faults with the vehicle.

"Now that he has been transported to the hospital we will secure the footpath as a crime scene, and (Wyndham St) will be reopened."

Roma resident Cameron Scott-Bohanna, one of the first at the scene, described the incident.

"I was walking to the shopping centre on the other side of the road when I heard an all-mighty crash," he said.

"I didn't see it happen, but when I turned I saw that (a man) was caught under the wheels of the truck.

"I came running over with another man, we were the first to arrive.

"(The other man) helped to reverse the truck while I lifted it up, his clothes appeared to be stuck in the wheels. We just wanted to relieve the pressure.

"Another person at the scene called the ambulance and they must have gotten here in about three or four minutes.

"The man was in quite a lot of pain."
