Churches earn flood appeal thanks

MARANOA council formally thanked the Combined Churches on Wedneaday for its hard work during and after the floods.

Appeal committee members Reverend Linda Hamill, Father Scott Gunthorpe and Anne Gibbes went to the council meeting and joined the councillors for a morning tea.

Mayor Robert Loughnan said the council thanked those who had made the flood appeal possible for Roma, Mitchell and all other regions which the appeal helped during the floods.

"You should be justifiably proud," Cr Loughnan said.

"I think the reason you have been able to earn so much money is the integrity of the way you have operated the flood appeal."

Fr Scott and Rev Linda thanked the council for the assistance it offered the appeal.

Fr Scott said he had been in town for only about a month before the floods hit.

"There was so much generosity, not just among the churches, but from the community as a whole."
