QUEENSLAND'S Dan and Steph Mulheron are the first team through to Sunday's My Kitchen Rules grand final.
The Hervey Bay couple won tonight's semi-final cook-off against "mates" Luke and Scott.
"It was a bit of an emotional day for us," Steph said.
"They're our closest friends in the competition. Whatever happened on the day we would have been happy. We'd rather go out against our friends in the semis, and they were the same."
It was a State of Origin-style showdown, and in true Maroons style the Queenslanders were victorious.
A major mistake by the personal trainers from Bondi helped the Mulherons get the small lead they needed to win the three-course challenge.
"Their main dish was way too salty, which helped us," Dan said.
"We set up our goals to get into the grand final so it's a huge achievement."
But the down-to-Earth couple's celebrations didn't last long.
"We had the celebration and said 'happy days we're in the grand final' and as soon as that finished we were in grand final mode," Dan said.
Dan described the intense five months of filming the reality cooking show as a "massive marathon".
"They're very, very long days, and as soon as you take your foot off the pedal it shows in your cooking," he said.
"It's a rollercoaster of emotions. If you can deal with that then it's half the battle. The cooking is the other 50 percent."
Sunshine Coast siblings Jake and Elle Harrison and Tasmania's Mick and Matt Newell face off in tomorrow night's second semi-final decider at 7.30pm on Channel 7.
