Multiple people injured in school shooting

Multiple people have been injured and at least one person is dead after a reported shooting rocked a Florida high school.

Coral Springs Police have been called to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

Authorities have warned the public to stay away from the area with authorities confirming an active shooter situation is underway.

Witnesses said the scene was chaotic as desperate parents were heading to the school.

WSVN reported at least 20 people had been injured on the high school property, however it remains unknown how many people were shot.

Margate Fire Department told CBS Miami there could be as many as 50 victims.

Margate Fire Chief Dan Booker told the Miami Herald that the situation was a mass casualty incident and confirmed at least one fatality.

One student at the school told CBS4 he was hiding in a closet.

"All of a sudden there was a really loud noise…..people are crying the closet," the student wrote.

He then asked when police were coming to help them.

Students were seen racing from the scene as armed authorities surrounded the school, ABC News reported.

Broward Sheriff's Office confirmed over Twitter there are reports of victims and said the shooter was still at large.

The White House confirmed President Trump has been briefed on the situation.

"The president has been made aware of the school shooting in Florida," the White House said. "We are monitoring the situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected."

The school remains in lockdown and some students have been escorted from buildings, according to Sky News.

ABC News America Host George Stephanopoulos asked one eyewitness how many shots he had heard.

"Too many to count," the witness replied.
Coral Spring Police told concerned parents over Twitter the school was on lockdown as a precaution.

It is the latest school shooting to rock the United States.

Two students were killed in the state of Kentucky after a 15-year-old opened fire on classmates last month.

The teenager also injured 17 others in the attack at Marshall County High School.
