Franklin lays brutal hit on Giants rookie

IT WAS a wet, old night in Sydney, but the Swans have held on to beat their arch-rivals GWS.

Led by two goals from superstar Lance Franklin, the Swans held on to record an eight-point win over the Giants at Blacktown International Sportspark on Friday night.

Franklin was part of the highlight of the night, laying a brutal bump on young Giant Tim Taranto that left the pick two short of breath.

Swan Jake Lloyd was the leading ball-winner on the ground with 27 disposals, while Callan Ward was the best for the Giants.

Meanwhile, Toby Greene was one grumpy Giant as the full-time siren, but TV replays suggest a GWS teammate might've been to blame for his anger.

Greene lashed out at Sydney's Harrison Marsh just before the final siren sounded.

The All-Australian appeared to be under the impression that Marsh had caused a deep cut near his eyebrow during a contested ball situation, prompting a left and a right swing from Greene's fists just seconds before the full-time siren.

However it appears it was actually GWS teammate Tim Taranto that collected Greene with an accidental elbow while trying to gather the footy above his eyes.

Despite the mix-up, Greene and Marsh refused to shake hands after the game, with Greene leaving Marsh with a few choice words.

"He's lucky he didn't make contact there," Fox Footy analyst David King said of Greene's attempted punches.

Brownlow Medallist Gerard Healy added: "He obviously didn't know it was his own teammate rather than the opposition player."
