RUGBY LEAGUE:

Fallen but never forgotten. The memory of Senior Constable Brett Forte was well and truly alive at the Gatton Hawks' final home game and family fundraiser last Sunday.

The commemorative event was held to coincide with the Hawks' final home game of the season and featured an auction of specially designed Hawks jerseys in every NRL team colour to support Senior Constable Forte's wife and three children.

Gatton Hawks president Doug Beahan said the entire day was a success.

"The auction went extremely well,” he said.

"I'm not quite sure of the actual proceeds once we take out all the costs, but I think we raised in the vicinity of $10,000 and we hope to contribute a large percentage of that to the Forte family.”

Attendees were also asked to stop for a minute's silence and prayer for the Queensland officer, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this year.

Speaking as a pastor as well as Hawks president, Mr Beahan said the silent tribute was the most powerful moment of the day.

"The whole crowd went quiet, you could have heard a pin drop,” he said.

"That was probably the moment of the most significance for me.

"It's one of those intangible things.”

The crowd turnout similarly boosted organisers' spirits.

"We had a tremendous crowd,” Mr Beahan said.

"I believe people do vote with their feet, and so by having a crowd there, that said to us that people appreciate the significance.

"It was a great weekend and a very successful family fun day.”

Mr Beahan said he had contacted Queensland police representatives at Toowoomba to coordinate the best possible way to gift the funds but had had no direct contact with the Forte family at this stage.
