CHINCHILLA trained thoroughbreds Ballard Boy and Dhacourt upped the ante at track work this week in preparation for Saturday's race meeting.

Still on a high from a listed win in Brisbane last weekend, courtesy of locally-owned I'm The One, trainer Mark Goodwin said the two 4-year-olds are galloping well.

"It should be a really good day and I think both have rough chances," Goodwin said.

Saturday's Class B will be Bellard Boy's first start after a spell.

Goodwin said he would have liked to be racing more of his horses this weekend.

"It's a bit disappointing that the program didn't work out too well for us and suit our horses, because they always ride well on their own track," he said.

Chinchilla Race Club president Terry Stewart said thanks to the hard work of the committee, members and friends in recent months the facility is ready for another great day of local racing.

"There's been a few upgrades and patrons will notice a bit more room to move around," Stewart said.

The old race day stalls were removed and replaced with new stables at a working bee involving club members and friends,.

"We're a bit concerned about the weather but the track holds up very well in the wet and the Open Handicap is looking like a good field," Stewart said.

The Chinchilla Race Club has welcomed to new sponsorship and organised courtesy buses to transport punters to and from the track.

The first race starts at 1:15pm.
