Motorbike crashes into emu near Charleville

A 53-YEAR-old man crashed into an emu on his motorcycle near Charleville yesterday morning, sustaining injuries to his right knee and right shoulder.

The incident occurred 45 kilometres south of Charleville, on Cunnamulla Rd, at 8.30am.

He was taken to Charleville Hospital.

The man was on his way to New South Wales to visit family and friends, when the accident occurred.

Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Algie said the man was lucky to be alive.

"It is important that people are aware of wildlife while driving on roads whether it is day or night," he said.

The emu fell over and lost a few feathers, then ran away.
