JAKE and Elle Harrison huddled together as they watched their fate play out on national television, just like the rest of us.

"That's when we found out, when it aired," Elle said.

"I had to be a rock for Jake, it meant so much to him, was so close to his heart.

"I had to give him a shoulder to lean on, let him know everything was going to be okay, and be the big sister."

After a string of eights and nines from the My Kitchen Rules judges, the Sunshine Coast siblings thought they might just have this in the bag.

But Dan and Steph Mulheron, of Hervey Bay, pipped them by two points.

The grand final was filmed with two endings, with the actual result aired on Sunday night.

"It was really exciting, we had our closest friends and family around us," Elle said.

"We huddled together for the last announcement ... it was an amazing moment."

Both teams were also kept in the dark when it came to their opponents' menus.

"After looking at their dishes, I think what they made was very Dan and Steph," Elle said.

"It was so close, we both showed a lot of technique."

Jake and Elle, the youngest competitors in MKR history, also revelled in cooking for their loved ones on set.

"It was really nice to have them there," Elle said.
