RUGBY LEAGUE: After 23 years involvement in the Wattles Warriors, Glyn Rees has been appointed club president.

He succeeds retiring president Neil Phelan who did not seek re-election.

Rees first moved to the Southern Downs with his family in 1989 and to Allora in 1994 when he was invited by official Mary Hamblin to be on the committee.

"I have always been keen to have a shot at being Wattles president but have been involved heavily down the years in junior administration at district, division and state level,” he said.

"We have seven nominations in total for club coaching positions which will be determined at a meeting on October 22.

"The club has healthy numbers on the committee but has still to appoint a secretary and treasurer.”

In a long career in administration, Rees was president of the Warwick and District Junior Rugby League for four years (1981, 1982, 2012 and 2013), South West Division Juniors chairman for 14 years and Central division chairman for two years.

He was a junior representative on the Queensland Rugby League Juniors board for 16 years and in 2009 was a delegate to the Queensland Rugby League. He is a life member of four rugby league bodies, including Wattles seniors.

Rees expects to retain all players from the 2017 season and has added former Wattles player Travis Burns to the ranks after he retired from top-level footy after playing 202 games at NRL and Super League level.

Information on the Wattles club from Rees on 0400811093.
