No leads on man police believe could be in Murwillumbah

POLICE have had no leads into finding missing Hungarian national Patrik Merl.

On Saturday Queensland police launched a media appeal to help locate the backpacker who they believe could be in the Murwillumbah area.

Tweed-Byron Local Area Command Inspector Gary Cowan said there had been no sighting or leads.

A Queensland Police spokesman also confirmed there had been no new hits.

Mr Patrik, 28, has travelled Australia since February 2012.

He was last seen in Mt Isa, Queensland in February 2013.

Police said they were concerned for his welfare as he had not made contact with his family or friends since November 8, 2012.

"Merl is travelling alone and has all his possessions in a large back pack and was last known to be in Murwillumbah, New South Wales on March 3rd 2013," a Queensland police statement said.

Mr Merl is described as Caucasian, 180cm tall, of a proportionate build, with a tanned complexion and short brown hair.

Anyone who may have seen Mr Merl since November 8 is urged to contact police.
