Only one home cook flying Queensland banner on MasterChef

2013's MasterChef Top 22.
2013's MasterChef Top 22. Channel 10

WHILE this week's My Kitchen Rules grand final was an all-Queensland battle, there seems to be a lack of Sunshine State talent on MasterChef.

Channel 10 today unveiled the new crop of 22 amateur chefs starring in this year's series of the reality cooking competition, and only one is from Queensland.

NSW accounts for half of the contestants, with six hailing from Victoria, two from South Australia and one each from the NT, WA and Queensland.

The state's hopes rest on 31-year-old IT consultant Neha Sen, who loves Latin dancing and traveling the world to taste local cuisines.

In contrast to previous series, MasterChef will this year launch straight into the Top 22 contestants rather than starting with a Top 100 or Top 50.

This will give viewers a greater chance to connect with one or more of the food lovers, who range in age from 20-year-old student Dan Tuddenham to 58-year-old optical dispenser Noelene Marchwiki.

The new series will be based in the show's new home of Melbourne.

Previously based in Sydney, the show moved to the Victorian capitol in time for this year's MasterChef: The Professionals series.

Judges and co-hosts Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan all return.

MasterChef Australia comes soon to Ten.
