POLICE have located a missing man thought to have been somewhere in the Roma district.

Nathan Peter was in fact not in the Maranoa as police originally suspected, but was instead found in Moree.

Sergeant Shane Ferry said the local police found Mr Peter last night on a river bank.

"They though he'd made his way up here but he'd actually never left town," Sgt Ferry said.

Sergeant Ferry said he understood Mr Peter was in good health.

Police confirmed Mr Peter was not from the Roma area, as claimed by other media sources.

Mr Peter went missing on Sunday night and had last been seen at around 11:30pm on the Newell Highway in New South Wales.

Police were concerned for his safety because he suffered from a medical condition.
