STORM forward Kevin Proctor is likely to start for New Zealand in Friday's Test against the Kangaroos in Canberra after Jeremy Smith was hit with a possible six-week suspension yesterday.

The Newcastle enforcer was penalised and placed on report for a head slam that left Panthers rookie Matt Robinson heavily concussed in Saturday night's game at Hunter Stadium.

A veteran of 24 Tests with the Kiwis, Smith faces four weeks on the sidelines if he opts to take an early guilty plea.

New Zealand assistant coach Tony Iro said Proctor was already in Canberra for that eventuality.

"We brought Kevin in on the likelihood that (Smith) might cop a charge ... that's proven right," Iro told reporters.

One squad that isn't settled is the City Origin squad for Sunday's City v Country trial at Coffs Harbour.

Five players - Canterbury five-eighth Josh Reynolds, Parramatta fullback Jarryd Hayne and Wests Tigers trio Robbie Farah, Aaron Woods and Chris Lawrence - withdrew with injuries yesterday.

Tigers fullback James Tedesco, who has played just four NRL games, teammates Joel Reddy and Curtis Sironen, as well as South Sydney utility Nathan Peats and Newcastle forward Adam Cuthbertson were called into the squad.
