Regional groups invited to apply for federal land care funds

MORE than $660 million is available for natural resource management programs in regional areas across the country, under the latest Caring for our Country grants released this week.

The grants will be open for application for environmental and agricultural sustainable land management programs.

Regional NRM groups, such as the Fitzroy Basin Association in Central Queensland, will share in a total pool of $669 million to help improve and maintain the nation's biodiversity and environment.

Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke and Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig said the regional NRM groups could apply for local land management programs and innovative environmental practices.

"This funding will help support the important work in regional level natural resource management, planning and prioritisation and brokering partnerships," Mr Burke said.

"Funding will support the development of, and access to, knowledge and skills to deliver on-ground activities in regional communities."
