Surat Basin gas sector highlighted for nation's GDP growth

THE mayor and councillors have showcased the Surat Basin gas sector at Queensland's Parliament House in the hopes of bringing more industry to the Maranoa.

Toowoomba Surat Basin Enterprise hosted the event with Minister Anthony Lynham a guest speaker.

Mr Lynham highlighted the importance the state government put on the oil and gas sector out of the Surat Basin and highlighting the contribution the region makes to the nation's Gross Domestic Product.

Mayor Tyson Golder and councillors David Schefe and Cameron O'Neil were there in hopes of seizing opportunities to attract new investment in the Maranoa.

Cr Cameron O'Neil said opportunities to showcase the Maranoa to potential businesses was a real benefit of attending gatherings like TSBE's evenings.

"As councillors, any chance we have to attract new investments into the Maranoa is a plus for the region,” Cr O'Neil said. .

"Any new business to our region can create job opportunities, stimulate our local commerce and welcome employees to become part of a local community.”
