Sydney teens behind daring tower climb

Two boys, aged 13 and 14, have been revealed as the pair caught on video climbing the 99m high AWA Tower building in central Sydney.

Channel 9 reported the boys had been arrested by police after one of them made the death-defying decision to climb outside the cage onto the top of the spire and hang on with just one hand while appearing to take a selfie.

They were later released without charge.

A witness who spotted the climbers and filmed them, Pedro Cuccovillo, told 2GB the boys had been just "a slip away from death".

He said his boss was looking out the window when he spotted the two, dressed in black, climb out onto the tower without harnesses.

Mr Cuccovillo said one of them was holding onto "the little stick (the spire) with one hand and in the other hand holding a phone for a selfie".

He said that originally he saw four people climbing the building but two turned back.

Police later entered the building and went up the fire safety exit to reach the pair who climbed back inside the 46m radio transmission tower atop the 15-storey building.

The video filmed by @pedrocuzz shows one of them stepping outside the metal framework of the peak of the tower.

The AWA Tower, built in 1939 for Amalgamated Wireless Australasia Limited, is located on Sydney's York Street close to Wynyard railway station.
