ABOUT 25 years ago LeeKernaghan was a knockabout country lad from southern New South Wales.
He spent his days fooling around with his mates, causing mayhem at the Bachelor and Spinster Balls, doing circle work in his ute and chasing girls.
They were the boys from the bush.
It was these experiences that provided inspiration for his first country music album, The Outback Club.
The album went on to win an ARIA Award for best debut album and shot Kernaghan to fame.
On October 29, Kernaghan will be in Kingaroy to perform at the town hall as part of a tour celebrating his 25 years of songwriting.
"It'll be a concert like no other because there'll be 25years of songs and hits in one big show,” Kernaghan said.
"It's a celebration, it's a party and it's an Outback Club reunion.”
As one Australia most famous country musicians, Kernaghan said he was incredibly grateful for the life he's lived.
"It been an incredible ride,” he said.
"Looking back on my last 25 years there have been some amazing experiences and I've seen so much of our country that inspired so many songs.
"There's been lot of road miles and a lot of air miles and everything in between.
"That's where a lot of the music comes from, from those experiences of travelling Australia and meeting people.
"Probably the highlight was being in the studio and working with the king of country, Slim Dusty.”
The pair recorded part of Kernaghan's second album together and it was Dusty's invitation to join him on the road that kicked Kernaghan's career into high gear.
"Slim lead by example,” Kernaghan said.
"One of the things I'll always be grateful for is the way he helped me out.”
It's a favour Kernaghan pays forward today by taking upcoming country stars on tour.
"Some of the biggest stars in Australian country music started as support acts, like young Adam Brand, the McClymont sisters and Christie Lamb,” he said.
The Boys from the Bush 25th Anniversary Tour will see Kernaghan tour with the Wolf Brothers, who he reckons are one of the best acts around.
Tickets to the concert can be purchased from www.oztix.com.au or Coppards Menswear in Kingaroy St.
