UPDATE: TIGER Woods has defied cries for his withdrawal from the Masters, accepting his two-stroke penalty prior to the third round.

Woods was punished for an improper drop at the 15th hole in Friday's second round, a violation that would previously have meant disqualification.

Woods inadvertently took an illegal drop after his pitch onto the green cannoned into the flagstick and bounced back into the water hazard.

Officials decided on a review after a call from a television viewer complaining about the second shot.

Woods, without any apparent concern from officials or fellow players at the time, replayed his shot from the same area where his ball found the water.

Tiger looking the good to take out Master in early rounds

TIGER Woods' bid to win a fifth green jacket started with a 2-under 70, and the score bodes well for the world No.1.

Woods, who last won the Masters in 2005, has shot 70 in five opening rounds in his career at Augusta and he won three of those years.

Defending champion, Bubba Watson, did not enjoy the best of days on Saturday after signing for a 3-over 75.

The last Masters champion to successfully defend his title was ... Tiger Woods in 2002.
