War of words between Labor, LNP over action on ice scourge

A WAR of words has erupted between Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington and Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk over the problem of methamphetamine addiction in regional Queensland.

The newly-appointed LNP leader today announced the party would run a series of anti-ice forums across the state, including Toowoomba.

Despite not explaining who would be at the events apart from local LNP members or how the evidence would be collected, Mrs Frecklington said she wanted everyone's voices to be heard.

"We'd love to hear from the addicts, from the families and community members who are affected by this scourge," she said.

Mrs Frecklington then went on the attack about the lack of government action after the release of its draft plan against ice in February last year.

"We've seen a paper that was released - a year has marched on and nothing has happened," she said.

Premier Palaszczuk returned fire, saying the government would release its action plan soon and pointing out the LNP did not submit anything for the draft action plan.

"The LNP was invited to the launch of plan and the Summit, and the then Shadow Minister for Health John-Paul Langbroek attended," she said.

"The LNP did not provide a submission on the draft action plan."

Ms Palaszczuk's Acting Health Minister Shannon Fentiman also accused the LNP of cutting drug and alcohol service when it was last in power, something Mrs Frecklington dismissed as a "scare campaign" from Labor.

The forum will be held on February 5 from 11am. The location is yet to be announced.
