Woman killed in horror highway crash

A WOMAN has been killed after a horror highway crash near St.George this morning.

Emergency services were notified of the crash on the Moonie Highway, 10 kilometres north of St George, shortly before 9am.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed the family was travelling from Toowoomba.

Two children, a boy aged 8 and a girl aged 4, were transported to St George Hospital in a stable condition.

The woman's age is unknown.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the scene was very confronting for emergency services.

"It was a pretty horrific scene," he said.

"The woman was very badly trapped in the vehicle with extensive exposed skull wounds.

"It has not been pleasant for all involved."

No other vehicle was involved in the crash.

The highway was closed in both directions for about two hours.

The Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
